Are you preparing for a Christmas mini-session and want to make the most out of it? Whether you’ve already booked a session or are thinking about it, this guide will help you get ready and ensure you have a fantastic experience!

What Are Mini Sessions?

Mini sessions are shorter versions of a full photoshoot—quick, fun, and to the point! They’re perfect for busy families, couples, or individuals who want a handful of beautiful, seasonal photos without the time commitment of a full session. Planning is essential since we’re working with a limited timeframe.

What to Expect During a Mini Session

  • Time: Mini sessions are brief, lasting 15 minutes, so every moment counts!
  • Style: Christmas mini-sessions include festive decorations and props to get you into the holiday spirit!
  • Location: If you’re coming to my studio in Covington, KY, keep reading for tips on how to prepare and find the studio.

How to Find the Studio & Where to Park

  • Address: 270 W Pike St, Covington, KY 41011.
  • Parking: You can park on Greer Street – free on-street parking and 1-minute walk to the studio, or there is metered parking right across the street.
  • Directions: The Studio’s main entrance is at the intersection next to the pharmacy. There is a building number and a decal on the glass that says Portrait Studio, so you won’t miss us!

Tips to Get Ready for Your Christmas Mini Session

Let’s choose the perfect outfit!

  • Coordinate without matching: Aim for a coordinated look rather than identical outfits. Choose complementary colors and textures that work together without blending into one another.
  • Start with one key outfit: Begin with one person’s outfit (usually the mom’s) and base everyone else’s clothing around that. Stick to a 2-3 color palette with neutral tones that flow nicely. Mix in layers, textures, and fabrics to add interest.
  • Use my Pinterest board for inspiration: Looking for ideas? I’ve created a mood board on Pinterest with ideas for family photo outfits that are perfect for a Christmas mini-session that I will have this year
What to Avoid

Avoid large logos, text, or busy patterns that can distract from the photos. So yeah, no Elsa t-shirts! Sorry, I know your toddler loves it!

This year, we have a fantastic setup with white walls and a mix of green and red decor, giving you plenty of flexibility when it comes to outfit choices! Here are my recommendations:

  • Classic Christmas Colors: You can’t go wrong with white, red, or green—these colors are timeless and look great against the festive backdrop.
  • Neutrals: Shades like beige, cream, gray, or soft browns will work beautifully with the setup if you prefer a more understated look.
  • Versatile Outfit Options: You can choose between a festive look (think holiday dresses), a casual outfit (cozy sweaters, yay!), or even go for fun and cozy pajamas! All styles will look great with the versatile decor.

3. Preparing Kids for the Mini Session

  • Pre-Session Snack: Make sure kids are fed beforehand with a snack that’s low in sugar and high in protein to keep them happy and focused. I know that sounds easy and they want a lollipop, but you can promise that for after the session!
  • Keep it Fun: Don’t put pressure on the kids to smile perfectly. 15 minutes doesn’t sound like much, but I work reeeeally fast. So just make it a relaxed and enjoyable time. If you’re helping them smile, remember to stand close to the camera to capture those natural reactions!

4. Relax and Enjoy the Moment

Remember, Christmas mini- sessions are meant to be fun and stress-free. Think of them as a joyful activity rather than a chore. Be yourself, laugh, and enjoy the time spent with your family or loved ones. The more relaxed you are, the more genuine and beautiful your photos will turn out! Just trust me as your photographer to capture candid and beautiful moments. If you’re having fun, the photos will reflect that joy!

FAQs: Common Questions About Mini Sessions

What Should I Bring to a Christmas Mini Session?

Nothing, really! But if you want to, you can bring any personal props you’d like to include (like a favorite holiday book or blanket, ornament, etc) and maybe a snack or toys to keep kids happy between shots. We probably won’t need it, but if it gives you peace of mind – go ahead!

How Long is a Mini Session?

It is 15 minutes! Let’s keep it short and sweet

What Happens if I’m Late?

Mini sessions are scheduled back-to-back, so if you’re late, the session will be shorter. Arriving on time ensures you get the full experience.
